Crime stats rarely seem to go down, and you need to protect your home and your family from any potential crimes.
You may not need Armed Response and Security Systems to protect your home, however, there are certainly lots of measures that you should put in place to make sure you do not become the victim of a criminal attack.
In this article, we’ll look at some of the steps that you can take to ensure your home and family don’t become victims of crime.
Secure Your Doors
One of the obvious points where a burglar will try and gain access to your property is going to be through your front or back doors. Any door that leads into your property should be properly secured.
Make sure that your frames are strong, the last thing that you want is for a burglar to be able to break down your door with brute force alone. Get a deadbolt fitted. This will make it harder to push through your standard locks.
You may also want to help to secure your doors by installing a video doorbell.
Secure Your Windows
Latches on windows are not always the strongest. However, there are ways that you can ensure your windows do not make the perfect entry point for any criminals trying to break into your home.
You could reinforce your glass with security film, use window bars, and you might even want to consider putting prickly bushes next to any ground floor windows to make it hard to gain access to them.
Light Up Your Garden
Criminals hate being seen, and if you can shine a light on their activities, then you will be able to slow them down or put them off completely.
Install bright lights in your garden that enhances the look of your home and garden in the night, but that will also act as a security feature. You may also want to consider having motion sensors fitted so that lights will come on whenever anyone steps into your garden during the night.
Add Fencing & A Gate
Another brilliantly effective step that you can follow to protect your home and family is to build fencing around your home. You can use a secured gate to access your property, using either a keypad, sensor or remote control to enter on foot or using your vehicle. This is such a great way to keep your property and its contents secure, as a would/be intruder would need to tackle the tricky task of trying to climb over your fence or gate to access your premises. You can even choose to protect your property with a custom gate that’s designed to match your home’s unique style and aesthetic, so you wont need to forfeit curb appeal when you add this security feature. In some instances you may also be allowed to add extras on top of your fence and gate such as barbed wire or anti-climb paint, but this is something that you need to confirm with your local council, and likely make known with a warning sign.
Consider An Alarm System
An alarm system is a great addition if you want to protect your home against break-ins, as you will be immediately alerted to the detection of an intruder whenever you set your alarm system. You can use an alarm on your front door so that it triggers when opened during the night, or you can use outdoor alarms that will sound when motion is detected around the exterior of your property.
Lock Down The Wi-Fi Network
These days, there is another type of crime that you should worry about- cybercrime. Criminals could gain access to your home computer network by hacking into your wi-fi. If you don’t have any protection in place, then you could find your network hacked. This may, in turn, lead to sensitive information falling into the wrong hands.
Set up a strong password on your router, rename and hide your network, use a firewall, and make sure that you have antivirus software installed on all of your systems.
