I’ve enjoyed my lemongrass plant all summer, and when the season started changing, I wasn’t quite ready to put it away. Instead of starting over with a completely new container, I created an easy fall planter idea using the plants I already had.

My lemongrass had grown beautifully throughout the summer, so I wanted to keep enjoying it as long as possible.
Rather than transplanting it, I left the lemongrass in its original pot and placed the entire pot inside the larger black metal container.
This made the project quick and easy, and I didn’t have to disturb the roots.
If you have a summer plant that’s still looking good, this same idea can work with ornamental grasses, tropical plants, or other tall container plants.
Using a Large Black Metal Planter
The black metal planter really changed the overall look of the arrangement.
The dark finish creates a beautiful contrast with the green lemongrass and the warm orange and yellow flowers. It also gives the planter a more polished, finished look.

Adding Ferns for Texture
Next, I tucked ferns around the outer edge of the lemongrass pot.
The ferns helped fill the open space and softened the edge of the container. They also added another layer of green, which helped the arrangement feel lush and full.
Greenery is one of my favorite additions to fall planters because it adds texture without making the arrangement feel overly decorated.
Adding Fall Flowers
For the seasonal color, I added bright orange and yellow flowers around the base.
Mums, marigolds, and other warm-toned fall flowers would all work beautifully in this type of planter.
