When Modern and Vintage Mix – It’s a Beautiful Thing

Mixing modern home furniture decor with vintage furniture decor pieces is the foundation of my modern, classic, farmhouse style.

I love neutral color palettes and using a mix of materials and textures is always aesthetically pleasing.

Using natural elements brings a down-to-earth feel to a space, and since I am a rural America kind-of-girl, I’m always looking for inspiration from nature and love bringing the outdoors in!

There’s no better way to incorporate some outdoor feel to your space than with natural elements.

There are no strict rules that say your decorating style must be only Modern or Traditional or Contemporary.

Foundation Pieces

All it takes is some clever arranging of the modern and vintage pieces and your home will have a charm and uniqueness all its own. 

Start by building around your foundation pieces.

The neutral couch is perfect to allow for mixing and matching of colors, textures and patterns. 

Gather up your seldom looked at books and other over looked items such as candle holders, glass items, baskets and so on.  

You can use them to decorate and add interest to the room.

Using reclaimed items

Reclaimed items are one of my favorite ways to decorate.  

Not only is an old wooden ladder not just a ladder…..it has character, it has a story ….leaning the ladder against a wall adds interest and charm to your space.

Another great way to display texture is to use an old basket to hold pillows. 

Have any old frames?  

Grouped together they form an interesting display and I decided to add a back drop of a vintage tobacco basket 

Stack some of your magazines together.

Place a candle holder on top to give different heights to draw the eye around your table item display.

The idea is to add eye pleasing arrangements not just a lot of items placed on a table, which is beyond…..boring.

Decorating is easy and affordable when you build with foundation pieces and add items you already have.
