How To Update Your Kitchen Without a Re-Fit

The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home and is a place that we and our house guests tend to spend quite a lot of time in. For this reason, if there’s a room in the house that often gets a full-redesign it’s the kitchen, but not everyone is able to afford or authorize a full kitchen re-fit, so what can you do? The answer lies in your kitchen accessories.

Updating your kitchen accessories

More often than not, the cupboards and work surfaces in your kitchen are a fairly blank canvas on which the overall look of your kitchen has been designed. So here are a few things that you can do to completely change the look of your kitchen without making any long-lasting changes.

Update your appliances

The countertop of your kitchen is often largely covered with appliances such as the kettle, toaster, maybe a blender and even a coffee machine and you can dramatically change the overall look and style of your kitchen by simply giving each of these items a facelift. For a retro look, there are a number of vintage style appliance sets available in bright color-pop designs, or for a more modern look, stick to clean metallic colors such as silver or grey. Or if you don’t want to spend any money at all then you can create a far sleeker-looking kitchen by simply hiding lesser-used appliances away.

Change your cupboard handles and knobs

You may not be able to re-fit your cupboard doors or drawers, and painting may also be off the cards, but you can always remove your cupboard door handles and drawer knobs and then replace them with something more in keeping with your new style. If you’re renting, then simply stow away the original knobs and handles and refit them before you move out.

Update your crockery

Crockery, especially if it’s on show, can make a big difference to the look of your kitchen. Consider investing in some high-quality handmade ceramic mugs and displaying them on a mug rack or from hooks beneath your cabinets. Similarly, why not add a cutlery holder to your counter top and fill with stylish matte black or shiny gold cutlery that will act as a kitchen accessory. If you have open shelving or glass cabinets, then a stack of beautiful plates can look extremely aesthetically pleasing.

Pay attention to the lighting

Lighting also has a big part to play in the overall look and feel of the kitchen. In a small kitchen space, under cabinet lighting can help to make the area feel more spacious and will provide ambient lighting for parties or events. Touch lighting can also be a great way to illuminate the inside of deep cupboards or dark spaces and can be installed easily with a removable command tab. Even changing the style of your ceiling light can make a big difference, so do spend some time playing around with lighting until you find the right illumination for you.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, 4 easy ways to update your kitchen without the cost or hassle of a re-fit! What other things would you try?
