Fruit and vegetables are among the most important parts of our diet. They provide us with the vitamins and nutrients necessary for healthy living, and without an excess of fat or sugar. However, many people find it hard to include the necessary amount of vegetation into their diet.

According to the CDC, only 1 in 10 adults actually eats the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables. It’s so easy to slip into bad habits, but eventually, everyone pays for them. However, it doesn’t have to be a chore to eat healthier and to include more veggies into your diet.

Many people think of a vegetable-heavy diet and picture endless salads. But it doesn’t have to be like that.

Fruit is Your New Best Friend

Most people turn to something sugary or salty for a snack, like potato chips or cookies. But instead, consider turning towards some fruit. It’s a really simple change, but it can do wonders for your health.

Most fruit does contain a lot of sugar, but it contains a lot of good stuff along with it. Even better, apples and other fruit fill you up more quickly than other snacky food. If you’re in the habit of skipping breakfast, then try starting the day with a smoothie to get you going.

Smoothies are sweet and tasty, but are absolutely full of nutrients and will fill you up. Children may see them as a treat, so it’s far easier to encourage them to eat more fruit this way. You can even include spinach and kale in your smoothie to make it even more healthy.

Have a Few Vegan or Vegetarian Days

Going completely vegan or vegetarian might be daunting, but skipping meat for a day or so can do wonders for your health. It will encourage you to eat more vegetables and to find inventive ways to use them and make them more palatable.

For example, the best vegan pizzas out there are enjoyable for omnivores and vegetarians alike. If you are vegan or vegetarian, then be careful not to become overconfident in your health. While it seems strange, even some vegetarians don’t eat enough vegetables to be healthy, preferring to fill up on carb-heavy foods instead. Another concern is vitamin B12, which is most commonly found in meat. If you do follow a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle, ensure that there are no deficiencies in your diet.

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to include fruits and vegetables in every meal. If you’re having a cheese sandwich, include some tomato. Replace meats with pulses and legumes, or mushrooms, so that you eat less fat and more vegetables.

Give Your Vegetables Some Love

Yes, it’s so easy to neglect the vegetables on the plate. Rather than serving a few sad greens on the side, make the vegetables the stars of the dish. Always season your vegetables to make them as tasty as possible, and treat them with respect. Sourcing the best vegetables and preparing them with care will make them a treat, not just a necessary evil.
