Becoming the perfect plant mom takes time, effort, and plenty of research. Nobody was born knowing how to look after each and every plant. It takes a lot of practice and determination! ‘Mom’ is the right word, too – plants take a lot of care and attention if you’re going to keep them healthy and looking great. Below, we’ll take a look at a few ways you can become the perfect plant mom:
- Choose Beginner Plants To Start With
You shouldn’t run before you can walk. Some plants are extremely hard to care for, and if you choose them to begin with them you may end up feeling disheartened. For instance, Crotons are beautiful but are notoriously difficult to care for. As a beginner, good plants would be:
- Snake plants
- Spider plants
- Succulents
- Bamboo
- Peace lilies
Buying one or two plants to start with is a good idea. Once you’re used to caring for them and feeling confident, you can move on to plants that are slightly more difficult to care for if you wish.
2.Select The Perfect Location
You can’t just plonk your plants anywhere you believe they will look good – you need to select just the right spot. Some plants need more light than others. Some will need to avoid draughts. Below you’ll get an idea of the things you need to consider:
- Does this plant like humidity?
- How much daylight does the plant need?
- Should it be in direct sunlight?
- Does the plant withstand draughts and changes in temperature?
Make sure you carefully research the plant to ensure you place it in the right spot.
3.Make Sure Your Home Is The Right Temperature
Your home also needs to be the right temperature for the plants you have chosen. Many of them won’t withstand super low temperatures, and might have trouble with drafts, too. This means you’ll need to keep them in a position that stays a similar temperature, and away from fans and air conditioning units. Air Conditioning Maintenance is important, but make sure you don’t place your plants in the way of your unit or you may shorten their lifespans.
4. Invest In A Moisture Meter
A moisture meter will give you a good idea of the soil and how dry/wet it is. This is super helpful for watering, as some plants prefer slightly moist soil, while other plants like their soil to dry out. This takes all of the guess work out of it!
5. Feed Your Plants
You may only need to feed your plants once every few months throughout the winter, but you should feed more often during growing season. Bear this in mind and set up a schedule so you won’t forget!
6. Keep Humidity In Mind
Some plants love humidity, so they are better off in the bathroom where the air is always warm and moist. If you can’t do this, then make sure you buy a plant mister and mist them with lukewarm water regularly.
