Dirty Filters
Your air conditioning unit has filters that are designed to prevent debris and other contaminants from getting into your home and potentially causing allergen issues.
Over time the filters will become dirty, reducing the flow of air through them and effectively reducing the air conditioner’s ability to cool the air in your home. In most cases, this means the rooms furthest from the unit will get less cooling.
Closing Doors
If you have an air conditioner unit for one room only then you’ll want to keep the door closed, providing there is an exit point for the warm air.
However, if you have a whole house system then you need to keep doors open to ensure the air keeps moving.
If you don’t then the closed-off room will only be able to accept so much air. As it will, in effect, be full, the cool air will be diverted elsewhere, giving you a warmer room than the rest of the house.

It seems obvious but many people leave their windows open with their air conditioning on. This creates an entrance point for the hot air outside your home, effectively making the air conditioning useless. Shut the windows and you’ll see the temperature drop.
You should note that condensation on your windows means they aren’t working properly, air can move through them and this will make it harder to cool your room, or warm the room in the winter.
Check Your Curtains
Open curtains let the sunlight in and make the room feel lighter and brighter. However, they also allow a lot of extra heat into the room. That makes it harder for the sun to reduce the temperature to whatever setting you have decided on.
Closing the curtains or blinds will help to ensure the room is at the right temperature. This is particularly important if the room is getting full sunshine throughout the day.
