I have been wanting to make some changes in my home to be more energy efficient and less wasteful in general.
So I decided there is no better time than now to start thinking about ways to reduce your energy usage and be more aware. So here are some of the options that I am doing or going to do.
Recycling and disposing of things correctly
If you are feeling like me and want to declutter and get rid of excess furniture, clothes, and just stuff? It really does build up inside your home or in your gardens.
One of my goals this year is becoming more minimalist in my home, so that means it is time to start decluttering and getting rid of it once and for all. However, I want to ensure that I dispose of it in the right way, taking into account recycling and having an eco approach to it. This is when things like the Same-Day Rubbish Removal website could come in handy.
Getting rid of food waste and reducing it
Food waste can become a big problem for many households, and it can often be down to habits that have evolved over time. So I have decided that I will meal plan and only buy what we need for those meals for the week. Also I will be more creative with things like leftovers or freezing things when I batch cook. These are all ways to start making changes,
Changing your energy source
My husband is always thinking of ways to save on heating our home. He just installed an outdoor wood boiler which will heat our home with the wood we have available from removing trees to build our house and also trees that have fallen because of storms. ( I will be posting more information on this great idea soon). This can be a big investment at first, but it can pay off in the long term.
Another thing to think about is increasing the insulation and investing in new windows and doors.
Collecting rainwater
I plan on collecting rainwater this year for my vegetable garden and flowers which is a simple thing to do. The plants love rain water and is great for watering grass in the summer months and it can save big money when it comes to our water bill.
We have even discussed pumping water from our ponds to the garden, so that is something we may do down the road.
Changing your habits
Finally, I want our family to think about changing some of our habits. We want to start by being more aware of the energy we sometimes are wasting. Things like switching lights off when you leave a room, changing the bulbs to LED energy saver ones.
Another great way to save on electricity is switching things off instead of leaving them on standby from my research this can really make a big difference in home energy usage.
I hope you have found a couple of ideas that you might use in your home to save on cost.
Thanks for stopping by. See you soon!
