Master Bedroom Plan:
This room is one of the easier rooms to declutter since I do not have as much stuff in here as some other rooms. My thinking is if I start with this easier room it will give me a feel for how fast this will go and I will then have one room under my belt. Some things I will throw away, some I will donate, some I will sell. Clean out drawers, surface tops, tv cabinet, baskets, and books.
The side tables next to the bed are not accessorized to my liking, so I am clearing them off for now and will circle back and decorate later.
I have a plastic tub that I am putting home decor items, just to hold for later decorating.
On my list page for each room I am jotting down notes for myself on what the room needs, so when I start decorating I can make a list of the rooms I need to shop for or when I am out and about I can keep all of the decor needs in mind.
You never know what you will see when going to a thrift store, it might just be the perfect thing.
Master Bedroom Closet Plan
Ok, it’s time to deal with my closet, UGH! I will not sugar coat this……I am dreading this closet so much……but I am going to hit it head-on.
I have read lots on the topic of closet cleaning and the tips that have worked for me to declutter in the past is to remove everything from the closet, and yes I mean everything. I hear the groans, I know its a pain but it is easier, in the long run, this way.
Start by grouping each clothing type. Like this: shoes, then boots, then dresses, then jeans, etc. You get the picture.
When you are looking at all your jeans at once, it is much easier to decide which you will keep and which will go. As you go through each group of clothing, sort items to the keep pile or the donate pile. Once sorted you are now ready to hang back into your closet. Organize into like clothing, tops all together and by color: example white tops then brown, then black etc.
Continue with each clothing group until all are hung and organized. Isn’t’ that a nice feeling to have your closet under control
Master Bathroom Plan
Start with your drawers. It’s best to take everything out. Start by looking at each item and if you are keeping put back. Discard the items that you are not keeping. Be sure to put the items most used in the top drawers.
Next move to the medicine closet/cabinet. Again take everything out and discard outdated medications, makeup, and skincare. Return the items you are keeping to the shelves in an organized way. I put all makeup items together and all the medications together. You don’t want to spend time searching for things you need.
Kitchen Plan
To look at my kitchen nowadays it appears clutter free…….Until you, open doors or cabinets then you will find lots of dishes and most are not used very often. Also, I somehow have 3 junk drawers, you know the ones that odds and ends (pencils, markers, batteries, papers etc.)
When starting to declutter the kitchen I am going to work one space at a time. As in the other rooms, I will completely empty each space and decide if I need or want the item. If keeping I will put the items back in the appointed drawer.
Finally, take a look at your countertops. This is one area that I like to keep only a few things. Coffee pot, some utilities, cutting knifes. Keep only what you use every single day on your countertops.
Living Room Plan
I am going to start with my side table and console table. Empty them and decide what is to stay and what is to go. Pick a drawer to store the remote controls, magazines, and books. Next, take a look at the electronics. Put away chargers and gadgets, or store in baskets.
Final Thoughts
This will not be a quick process, but I am ready to stick it out and keep steadily working until each room is de-cluttered. It’s important to be realistic and know that it will take time, perseverance, determination and patience. I wanted to share this plan with you guys today in hopes that maybe it will inspire someone out there that feels the need to declutter and create a calming feeling in your home and life.
I will be sharing my progress in this decluttering plan and I would love to hear how you are doing.
