When you’re selling your house, you’re going to want to make it look as attractive as possible to any potential buyer – no one wants their property to sit on the market for months, losing value all the time, if they can make some minor changes and ensure that it sells much more quickly.
With this in mind, it’s good to know what people are really looking for when buying a house. What is it that will make them say yes rather than move on and never think of your property again? Read on to find out.
When someone pulls up outside your home, what is it they will see? Is it a well-maintained property that looks attractive and as though it would make a good home? Or is it messy and unloved, perhaps even with damaged areas that make it look like a bad deal? Remember, your home’s exterior is the first thing any potential buyer will see, and it will give them an idea of whether they like the place or not before they even step inside.
A little care taken on the outside could make a big difference not just in how long it takes to sell your property but in how much someone is willing to pay for it too. Take an objective look and make a list of everything that needs to be done before you put the house on the market. You might need to think about the different types of garage doors, or painting your front door, or turfing the front lawn, or repairing the driveway, along with other things. Fix this, and you’ll sell more easily.
Everyone has a lot of ‘stuff’, and that stuff is going to need somewhere to go once they move into wherever it is they choose to move into. So something that is always going to come high on anyone’s list when they are deciding which property to buy is storage. If you can make any extra storage, this would be ideal. Maybe you could clear out your garage and show it empty so that potential buyers can see how much space there is or make a new shelving area under the stairs.
If you can’t do this, or you don’t have the time or budget to do so, decluttering your home will help a lot. The less stuff you have in your own property, the more room there will appear to be. If your house is cluttered and full, it will always look as though there is very little storage, and it might even make the house itself look smaller.
Kitchen And Bathroom
There are two rooms in your home that need extra attention when you are about to sell. These are the kitchen and the bathroom. These are actually the rooms that could sell your home, so if they look great, you’ll sell more quickly.
Most buyers are happy to redecorate with new wallpaper or light fittings, or carpeting, but they would rather not have to put in a new kitchen or bathroom. So if you can make yours look good, or even install new ones if you can afford to do so, buyers will be much happier to buy your home, especially when compared to one that doesn’t have a new kitchen or bathroom and that they know they’ll need to put money into at some later stage.
