It’s at this time of year that many people start to notice that their homes could do with something of a spring clean. The sun starts to shine, and cobwebs get spotted more easily, dust floats around in the air, and there is often rather a contrast between the inside and the outside, one being so bright and lovely and the other maybe not quite so comfortable.
It’s essential to do your spring cleaning in some kind of order, giving yourself a chance to get to everything in its time. Of course, you’ll be doing the usual cleaning too, but what should be at the top of your priority list when it’s time to do the big annual (or six-monthly) clean? Read on to find out.
Kitchen Cabinets
Something that often gets forgotten but that can get extremely dirty is your kitchen cabinets. These can take quite some time to scrub down since they could be covered in grease and other stains, and in many cases, it is better to call in an end of tenancy cleaning Canary Wharf expert to get the job done for you. After that, you can more easily tackle it. Without the right cleaning products and equipment, though, this is a job that could take all day and then some.
To keep the problem down to a minimum in the future, always run your exhaust hood when cooking. That way, food particles, and grease will be drawn away from your cabinets rather than having the chance to settle onto them.
Windows
You might regularly wipe down the inside of your windows (and if you don’t, you could add it to your weekly cleaning schedule), but what about the outside? Your big spring cleaning is the ideal time to get this done. Again, if it is easier (due to the time it would take, the equipment required, or for safety reasons), hire a professional to do this. However, you might be able to do at least some of it yourself if you prefer.
Some tips to help you if you do choose this option is to clean your windows on a cloudy day. This is because if the sun is out, the windows will dry a lot more quickly, leaving smudges and streaks.
Wooden Floors
Wooden floors should not be mopped every week, even if you think that makes sense. Too much liquid on the floors, and you can actually ruin them rather than keep them looking nice. Weekly cleaning with soft broom to sweep them is ideal. When spring cleaning use a polish or special wooden floor cleaner to make them shine.
Be careful after this, of course; the floor will be extra slippery for a day or so as the polish seeps into the wood. If you have plants in the rooms with wooden floors, never put them directly on the wood – always use a saucer or trivet. Plus, put floor protectors on the legs of your furniture.
Summary
Cleaning areas of our home that are high use and high traffic areas are very important. Daily cleaning these areas will keep you home clean and in great shape day in and day out.
