Here’s What Your Outdoor Space Is Still Missing

Sometimes you can spend a lot of money on your outdoor spaces, and they still don’t quite work out how you’d like. Something is missing, but you can’t quite put your finger on what. Try as you might, nothing quite makes them feel complete.

So what could be the problem?

Outdoor Heating

Your garden space might look fabulous, but if you’re missing essentials, like heating, then you won’t want to take full advantage of it.

Outdoor heating was once a luxury that you only saw at posh eateries wanting to offer people comfortable alfresco dining experiences late into the evening. Now though, you can find these heating products in practically every garden center and outdoor furniture shop on the planet.

In general, there are a couple of types that you’ll want to consider. The first is the open-flame variety: chimineas. These burn fuel and then use their thick ceramic shells to radiate heat.

The second is electric. These run a high current through heating elements, which then put out infrared radiation. They’re typically easier to set up than chimineas, but less attractive.

Outdoor Seating

Outdoor spaces are great, but ideally, you want to recreate as many of the comforts of the living room as you can. If you neglect to install seating, you’ll feel like you have to hover on your patio, and you’ll struggle to enjoy it.

Some outdoor chairs can be uncomfortable, but not all. The Adirondack chair, for instance, makes it easy to sit back, relax, and enjoy the sun’s rays in peace. You can also get outdoor cushions that can survive sunlight and rain without going smelly, damp, or moldy.

Create A Covering

While sitting outside in the sunshine might sound ideal in the height of winter, few people want to do it all day in the summer. The heat and brightness of the sun are just too intense.

Thus, your outdoor space might be missing a covering or an awning

When it comes to patio coverings, you have more options than you might think. Some people opt for fixed structures that extend beyond their sliding patio doors. Others use retractable covers that fold away when they’re not required.

Create A Focal Point

Perhaps you’ve installed all the creature comforts you can dream up, but your outdoor space still doesn’t feel right.

The missing factor could be a focus point. If there’s nothing that draws the eye, then outdoor spaces can feel bland and empty.

If you don’t have space for a fountain or flower bed, you can always try creating a green wall. This will add natural vibrancy to your patio space and help it to feel complete.

Introduce Mood Lighting

Lighting is just as important outdoors as it is indoors, especially if you plan on enjoying your garden space into the evening and at night.

Where possible, try to install mood lighting. Keep things dim but colorful (for maximum relaxation). And then hide any ugly wires or extension cables out of the way so that they don’t wreck the aesthetic.
