Drop Cloth Material – Which Is The Best?

One question I get all the time is “What drop cloth material should I buy”?

With the popularity of the drop cloth material in recent years, there are more vendors offering drop cloth material than ever before

but with that also comes different quality types of materials.

Before purchasing your drop cloth know what your project will be

I have made lots of projects with a drop cloth, and I have discovered that not all drop cloths are created equal

Let’s take a look at some of the projects so you can get a visual of what I mean.

French Place Mats – Drop Cloth

This drop cloth material is tightly woven and beautiful to feel and the texture is amazing.

I made these French Style placemats from drop cloth that is a cotton duck cloth type.

This Trimaco 56701 Premium Utility Weight Canvas Drop Cloth, 6-Ounce, 9-Feet x 12-Feet type of drop cloth is my favorite. 

Quality material and tight weave.

Sunflower Pillow – Drop Cloth 

The sunflower print itself was a panel I purchased from Joann Fabrics.

I made the back out of drop cloth material that was a looser weave. 

Drop Cloth Cushions

My wicker furniture needed some cushions so I decided to cover some existing cushions that I got on clearance

My drop cloth for this was the same drop cloth from the sunflower pillow back. 

Lighter, softer drop cloth with a loose weave.

The problem with this drop cloth was that the loose weave didn’t work as well as I would have liked when adding the yarn tufting.

The fabric gave too much when pulling the yarn tight.

Drop Cloth Pillows

If you are needing a seamless drop cloth, Melca makes a nice one with only seams on the edges.
