DIY Chicken Wire Planters – The Cutest Take-Home Gift for Your Guests

Hi friend!

If you’re anything like me, you love giving (and let’s be honest—receiving!) a thoughtful little gift at a party. It’s those sweet, simple gestures that leave a lasting impression. And these charming chicken wire planters? Well, they’re the perfect DIY for your next gathering—adorable, affordable, and something your guests will actually want to take home.

Of course, if you just want to keep one for yourself, I won’t tell. But let’s be real—you’ll want to make a few. 😉

These little beauties are perfect for weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, or even a cozy backyard brunch. Instant charm, no fuss.

What You’ll Need:

Let’s Make Them!

Step 1:

Start by cutting two pieces of the 16-gauge steel wire, each about 12–13 inches long. This will form the top and bottom rings of your planter.

Step 2:

Bend each piece into a circle. Don’t worry about perfect shape—imperfection adds charm!

Step 3:

Now cut a piece of chicken wire wide enough to create a cylinder that fits between your two rings. Let the edges overlap just a bit so you can secure them.

Step 4:

Form your cylinder and attach the top and bottom rings by bending the raw edges of the chicken wire around them. Gloves are your friend here—those edges can bite.

Once it’s all secure, gently squeeze the cylinder in about ¾ of the way down to shape it into a sweet little planter.

Hi Bon Bon! Both you and your name are precious!! I’ve so enjoyed reading about how to make a a Chicken Wire Planter! You have, indeed, come up with a darling idea and one I would just like love to make!! I can just invision one made for Christmas with a little holly plant and some red decorative ribbon wrapped around where the chicken wire is cinched! Oh, and one for fall with maybe a little pumpkin in it instead of TG a plant!! The possibilities are endless, Bon Bon!! I’m afraid you have created a monster!!

I signed up to receive your blog in my email so now I’m excited to see what surprises you may have for us next! Until then, take care of you!!
