South American Interior Design

It’s easy to get wrapped up in purely Western interior design. It’s true that many of the interior design styles in the world do come from Europe and are quickly adopted in all parts of the world. However, South America is a very proud continent, with incredible decor, furniture and architecture styles.

The most prominently modern and stylish nations in South America are Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Panama. They do have a flavor of their own which has developed from Spanish and Portuguese styles mostly. If you would like to make your home into a South American haven, there are some quite easy measures you should take.

A bathroom of paradise

Mexico is second only to Brazil when it comes to the economy, but in terms of prominent style, it’s arguably the best. The kitchen is often seen as Mexican style’s most joyous place but in actual fact, the bathroom is where the most brash and daring interior design is. Many people don’t realize that Mexico has some exotic shores and beaches. That’s why the Avallon mexican tile style is so gorgeous to have in your bathroom. Turquoise blue, mixed in with forest green, pale white and a splash of sky blue. The design is typically symmetrical yet it has a gravity to its central pull. Not many people know in the West, but Brazil is on track to become a superpower. And just like any superpower, the family home is the main focus of its attention because this is where the wealth will come from. As such, the Brazilian interior design is going through a transformation. Pine and lime are the order of the day. Incredible pine wood ceiling and flooring are coupled with vegetation that specifically has a lime green color. Palm trees and green free plants are very popular because they provide natural life for the room, but the double as privacy trees as well. You should add a green fern tree to your garden and watch it blossom large intricate but flexible leaves.

A pine dining table is so much cheaper than almost any other kind of wooden style. However, you can give it a typical Brazilian look by giving it a stroke of orange varnish with a gloss finish. The gloss is a nice touch because it plays with the light in the room while looking like a more expensive table.

The alluring Argentine

Argentina is a mysterious nation to many. You can trace its foundations back to Spain but it also has a uniquely South American touch to its interior design. Firstly, a typical Argentine home will have something to do with hunting. So you can pin a bow and arrow to your wall as real decoration. A deer figurine or brass statue would be great for a side table or sideboard. 

The common Argentine home has a running theme of red and white. A red and white sofa in a patterned style or perhaps stripes is a nice classic touch. Don’t go for block colors as this is too 80s America. 

Restaurants in Buenos Aires hang lights in wicker baskets. They use lamps that burn candles to give off a genuine light that has a flickering flame. The wicker baskets are lightweight so they can hang from a peg on the wall. 

Bright and boastful

Why Panama? Why does this small nation have so much sway over South American style? This is where many Americans came and did business; of all kinds. The nation suddenly becomes a hot destination for tourists and thus, grandiose and glamor soon developed to attract the wealthy. 

A bright yellow sofa or seating would be the quintessential Panama interior design statement. It’s loud, boastful and exotic. Stand a tall plant alongside your seating and you will have the classic yellow and green rainforest tone that so many people wished they could have.

Conclusion

South American interior design isn’t taking any drastic steps. It’s purely refining what already works and instead, is bringing in a wave of new materials as their economies begin to compete with the giants.
