Why I Am Minimizing My Christmas Decorations

The hustle and bustle of the season is here.  Are you feeling overwhelmed with shopping, baking, cleaning and entertaining?

No wonder we sometimes do not feel the Christmas spirit, and that is how I feel this year.

For me, this means I am not into decorating the house for Christmas this year.

My solution:  Giving myself a break and minimizing my decorations and keeping it super simple.

So I left most of the decorations in the attic and I am loving the outcome.

Let’s take a look at my Simpler Christmas Decor and how LESS DECOR looks!

What I Used

Keeping the decorations to a minimum I decided to put up the flocked 9′ tree and the ornaments.

I placed fresh pine garland on the mantel with a few small white trees.

A white wooden tray with ornaments, a large 6″ x 6″ White Pillar Candle on the living room ottoman

Red Glass Ornaments in a dough bowl with White Candle Holders, Preserved Boxwood Wreath, Large White Mirror on the entry table by the front door.

A couple of small trees in the loft bedroom with a Plaid Duvet and Shams comforter set gives a festive, cozy feel.

The Compare Game

As we scroll through INSTAGRAM, PINTEREST, and TWITTER  we all compare ourselves and wish our homes, Christmas tree, or front porch looked like those photos.

Let it go.  Just enjoy the beautiful images and use the inspiration in something you will enjoy.

Don’t be a slave to what you feel you have to do.  Let your mood, energy level, and what makes your heart happy be your guide to your perfect holiday decor.

It’s not important, how many trees you have up or if your decorated tree could win an award for Most Perfect Christmas Tree EVER!  Not the gifts you give or receive.

Simplify. In return, you will have more time to enjoy your families, friends and the reason for this season to celebrate the birth of Christ.

I cannot tell you how much better I feel and how much more I am enjoying this Christmas season.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you enjoy every single day of this Wonderful Holiday Season!

I love the decorations you used! I didn’t use even 1/3 of my remaining Christmas decor this year. I gave away or sold most of the other items a couple of months ago. My mantra is “less is calming” and I have much less stress because of it. I’ve also learned to say no to some things and not feel guilty about it. We chose to not have a fall or Christmas get together with our friends/neighbors this year and that removed quite a bit of stress. The Christmas season is about peace and celebrating the birth of our Savior, not about outdoing the next person that you don’t even know on Instagram! Love and hugs!

Hi Benita. Totally agree. It really is so calming having less stuff. As far as all the other pressures of parties and get-togethers we did the same with eliminating the parties and just going out a couple of times with friends and family instead of the big parties. Best of Holiday’s to you and your family and I am sure we will talk again soon. Love and Hugs!
