The boxes are unpacked (mostly), the essentials are in place, and now it’s time for the best part—decorating! After months of planning, designing, and making countless decisions on the build itself, I’m finally getting to the stage where I can focus on creating a cozy, stylish, and welcoming space. And first up on my list? My bedroom.
I want my bedroom to feel like a serene retreat, a space that is both inviting and effortlessly chic. I’m leaning into a minimalist yet warm aesthetic with a neutral color palette, focusing on soft browns, off-whites, and black accents.
The Design Vision
To keep the space feeling light and airy, I’m opting for a soft, neutral wall color as a backdrop. My off-white wood bed will be the focal point, dressed in a crisp white duvet, a taupe diamond quilt, and coordinating shams. I’m layering in my favorite Boll & Branch white cotton sheets and pillowcases for a luxurious, cozy feel. To add contrast and a bit of modern edge, I’ll bring in black mudcloth accent pillows.
Furniture & Decor Choices
For furniture, I’m still deciding on nightstands—should I go with black for a bold contrast or stick with neutral tones for a more blended look? I love the idea of incorporating natural wood framed wall art to add warmth and a touch of organic texture.
One of my favorite features in this space is the large window that lets in an abundance of natural light and offers a beautiful view. I want to accentuate it with simple, elegant window treatments—perhaps sheer linen curtains to soften the look while still allowing the light to filter in. A stylish bench or a set of woven baskets beneath the window could provide both function and aesthetic appeal, making the most of this beautiful feature.
My natural wood flooring is the foundation of my decor colors, and every element in the room needs to complement it. The warm tones of the floor help tie together the neutral and black accents, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
One thing I know for sure: this space will be minimalist and intentional. Every piece needs to serve a purpose while adding to the overall aesthetic. Clean lines, simple details, and a calming palette are the goals here.
What’s Next?
Next up on the list is an accent wall. I’m still debating what direction to take—should it be a wood panel design, a subtle wallpaper pattern, or something else entirely? I’m also on the hunt for the perfect accent chair. I’d love something comfortable yet stylish, a piece that invites me to curl up with a book and relax at the end of the day. Maybe a boucle or linen-upholstered chair? Decisions, decisions!
