I love decorating with light, neutral tones. Neutral base pieces like sofas, rugs, and larger furniture give you the freedom to easily change your look with:

• Accent chairs

• Seasonal decor

This makes updating your space fast, affordable, and stress-free — no full room makeover required.

Designing for Comfort and Everyday Living

A beautiful room is wonderful.
A beautiful room you actually want to live in? Even better.

Choose seating that invites you to sit down and stay awhile. Add soft textures and cozy layers so your living space feels welcoming for family time, reading, or quiet evenings at home.

Let Natural Light Be Part of Your Design

Lighting can completely change how a room feels.

In our home, we don’t use curtains because we live down a private gated lane surrounded by woods. That means we get to enjoy natural light pouring in all day long — and it makes the space feel open and fresh.

If you don’t have large amounts of natural light, invest in good interior lighting so your room still feels bright and functional for:

• Reading

• Family activities

• Creative projects

I may eventually add interior shutters in bedrooms simply to soften early sunrise light (nature’s alarm clock is very committed).

Adding Extra Seating with Side Chairs

Side chairs are one of the easiest ways to add both style and function. They’re usually affordable and flexible enough to move wherever extra seating is needed.

When planning out your room keep in mind adding lights or the natural light from windows.

Add really good lighting so the room is well lite for reading and other projects the family likes to do.

Shop Your Home Before Buying New

One of my favorite decorating tricks is simply rearranging furniture.

Moving items around can instantly refresh a room — no shopping trip required.

Lately, I’ve been embracing a “less is more” decorating style, focusing on fewer pieces for a cleaner, calmer look.

Less clutter.
More breathing room.
More peace (and less dusting — always a bonus).

Why the Living Room Is My Favorite Space to Refresh

The living room is one room I change up the most. Rearranging furniture, swapping decor, and trying new layouts keeps the space feeling fresh — and it’s something I truly enjoy.

Sometimes a “new room” is just a Saturday afternoon furniture shuffle away.
