I am so glad you stopped by today for the kickoff of a new summer series called, Room by Room hosted by Amy at My Life From Home.
Do you like taking a peek at into other homes to check out their decorating styles?
I know I do.
Each week we will take you on a tour of a room in each of our different homes and share our tips on how we decorate, suggestion on how to add unique style, while also keeping it livable.
We hope you will be able to apply some of the tips and inspiration to your own spaces.
Our group includes bloggers with different home decor styles, so there is something for everyone
You will find all the links for each of the different rooms as you scroll to the bottom.
The theme for this 1st week of the Summer Room by Room series is Living Spaces.
So let’s take a look.
A Comfortable Living Space in a Modern Farmhouse
Creating a living space that is functional and pretty at the same time is sometimes a challenge
Light Neutral Colors
I like using light and neutral colors as you can see.
One of the advantages of neutral base furniture and rugs is that you can add any color you like with throw pillows, blankets or even a different chair with color and get an instant new look.
Functional and Comfort
Like most living/family room spaces this room is used a lot but once we complete our basement family room all the busyness of this room when then be there.
When decorating this room I knew it was temporarily the family room, so I wanted my furniture picks to function for the family room now and then to more of a formal sitting/guest conversation area which was our plan when designing the home.
I added this ottoman a few months ago, which adds a great place to put our feet up for comfort, but also adds extra seating when company comes by. If you want more info on coffee table/ottoman check out my REVIEW HERE.
Throw pillows and blankets give a cozy feel to a room and I have pillows in all my bedrooms, office and family room.
Let the Light In
When planning out your room keep in mind adding lights or the natural light from windows.
I do not have curtains on any of our windows.
We live down a gated private lane in the middle of 40 acres surrounded by forest so having curtains is not really necessary for privacy.
On sunny days we have lots of sunshine in this space.
If you do not have this option, be sure to add really good lighting so the room is well lite for reading and over projects the family likes to do.
I may add inside shutters to the bedrooms just because the sunrise sometimes gives us a wake-up stream of light very early.
Sky High view from the loft
Side chairs are affordable and add extra seating to any room.
Change Things Up
As you look at the photos you will see different looks with some of the furniture in different places.
Keep in mind that you do not have to buy new items to get a fresh new look.
In fact, this year I have been scaling down the items in my room decor with a “Less is More” look.
Less items for a cleaner look.
My living space is the room that I rearrange and decorate differently all the time.
Moving items around is a great way to keep the room looking fresh and its something I love to do.
I hope some of these tips are helpful in your home.
But now its time to take a look at the over ladies rooms. Have fun and don’t forget to come back next week for the 2nd week of our Summer Room by Room Series.
