Misconceptions About CBD

CBD is one of the most popular trends right now; people drink it in their tea, they put drops on their tongue and they eat it capsule form. But what exactly is it? And is it actually good for you?

It is indeed good for you – but there are lots of misconceptions surrounding CBD.

Here are four of the most popular misconceptions, so you can be informed before you decide if you want to try it.

CBD: What Is It?

Let’s start off by defining CBD. CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is one of 80 compounds extracted from the cannabis plant. Another well-known compound is THC, but the two compounds are very different; THC is addictive and can get you high, while CBD is not addictive and it won’t get you high. However it can do a lot of other things; it can help with stress and anxiety, it can maintain brain health and it can reduce inflammation.

So CBD is a health product, and it is used by millions of people across the world to help with various problems. Yet despite this, there are lots of misconceptions about the product – so let’s go through some of the most popular.

CBD Is Marijuana

CBD can be found in marijuana, but you can’t find marijuana in CBD oil. This might sound a bit confusing, but it is because CBD is only one of 80 components that come from the marijuana plant, and when it is in pure form you will only find CBD. So no, crude CBD is not marijuana.

You Can Get High From CBD

One of the biggest misconceptions about CBD oil is that it can get you high, but this isn’t the case – it is actually THC that will get you high. The two components are very different to each other; THC is addictive and can alter your mental state, while CBD is none-addictive and provides health benefits. So if you buy CBD in the hopes it’ll get you high, you will be very disappointed.

CBD Sedates You

CBD is well known for helping with sleep, but it isn’t actually a sedative. It is a compound that can reduce disordered thoughts (AKA stress or anxiety), which makes it easier for you to relax and sleep. However this can be different for everyone; some people take CBD and instantly feel relaxed and sleepy, while other people try CBD and simply feel less anxious.

The More CBD, The More Effective

With most types of medication, a stronger dose is more effective. For instance, if you have a really bad headache you might take two paracetamol instead of one – but this thinking can’t be applied to CBD. This is because various studies have found that small amounts of CBD are more effective than larger doses. However it is important to be aware that everyone reacts differently to CBD, so the perfect dose for you is likely different for someone else. For this reason, we suggest starting with small doses if you do decide to try CBD.
