This is my living in my old house.
This is my living room before we moved to our new home. I consider my home style Modern American Farmhouse.
I have a love for the simple charm that farmhouse decor offers.
My grandmother lived in a farmhouse, I grew up in a farmhouse and now I have a farmhouse of my own…..you could say farmhouses are in my blood.
In my past house I had a dark look going on. When designing our new home I wanted a lighter look. I wasn’t sure our budget was going to allow for new furniture but I planned on replacing items with the look I wanted as our budget allowed.
This is our new living room. Bigger windows to allow lots of natural light. I did get a new couch and chair when we moved in but I had to live with the dark rug for a few months.

Here is the room with the white rug. I like the contrast that it creates with the dark wood floors.
With the addition of the light couch, chair and rug, I was able to use my dark tables and still maintain the light color look.
Adding rustic furniture and accessories
Incorporating rustic chunky wood pieces and wire baskets give a farmhouse vibe.
I often find items at thrift stores and estate auctions.

If you would like to add some farmhouse style to your home, remember you can start small and just keep building on the look with rugs, furniture, and accessories.

It’s SO pretty! The new rug, really brightens up the space! My husband’s family owns a farmhouse, and it’s all I can do to not sit down with them and ask them, no plead with them, to let me make it over. It would be such a dream!
