During the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone around the world has been affected. No matter who you are or where you live, your ability to live your life as normal has probably been compromised. If you’ve been stuck at home and having to juggle working your full-time job, home-schooling your kids, cooking, cleaning and more, you might be going a little stir crazy.

The Garden Is A Sanctuary of Calm

If you’re lucky enough to have an outside space, you need to use it. Many people have gardens but don’t fully appreciate how much of a life-saver they can be. You might have even spent a lot of time perfecting the aesthetic of your garden by filling it with plants and furniture. But cultivating your calm head space in your garden is the most important thing about this green slice of heaven. Below are some ways to increase calm feelings and good vibes in your garden.

How Do I Make The Most Of My Garden?

Scientific research shows that the colour green is beneficial to our brain’s overall well-being. By cultivating your own personal jungle, you are not only making a beautiful visual for your garden, but you’re also helping your own mental health. Here are some other ways to make the most of your garden!

Growing Food

This ancient practice has come back on trend in recent years – and there’s a reason why. Apart from being a fun hobby which anyone with a small garden space can enjoy, growing your own food also helps you mentally. Growing plants, particularly vegetables and fruit, helps you focus on the softer, more nurturing side of yourself. If you have a high-powered career or a generally busy, stressful life, growing food helps you unwind, feel calm, and practice intentional calm and nurture in your garden.

Plus, growing food has never been easier than now. With information, tutorials and guidance online, you can get your green thumb quickly! If you’re struggling with sowing your seeds, staking tomatoes or fertilize your runner beans, look online to get great advice from world-class gardeners.

Garden Yoga and Meditation

Use your garden space for more than just sitting and relaxing. You can use your outdoor space to begin an ancient physical practice which helps your mind and body become one. Yoga and meditation are proven to reduce stress, increase physical strength and help you be happier and healthier. There is no better place to practice these things than outdoors in your garden space. Being among nature, breathing and stretching away, is extremely soothing.

Family Learning

If you have a bare outdoor space you want to transform into a green haven, get your family involved. For children, being outdoors and away from desks and screens is extremely beneficial to their well-being. Plus, if you all learn together, it is likely to be a great bonding experience for everyone involved. Teamwork makes the dream work, and a family is the best kind of team there is! Learn to garden with your parents, your children, your partner or your friends.

We have a veggie garden every year. It is my hubby’s de-stress place. We’ve already enjoyed fresh cucumbers and zucchini from the garden to the table. I can’t wait for the tomatoes to turn red. I’d love to have an outdoor meditation spot someday. I start my day with prayer and meditation. Stay safe.
