Make your own Rustic Metal Look Letters

I love the rustic, industrial look of metal items. Do you?   I decided I wanted to get metal letters so I shopped around and the prices ranged from $25.00 to $49.99 each for metal letters.  Those prices were not in my budget so I began to ponder how I could make my own.

With this inspiration I decided to start looking around for the letters. I found the 12″ size letters on Amazon.

I then looked for this metallic finish paint that I had heard of but had never used.  Now don’t be jealous of my beautiful manicure. HaHa!

Rust-Oleum Universal 12 oz. All Surface Forged Hammered Antique Pewter Spray Paint and Primer in One (Case of 6)

I found this beautiful paint at Amazon.  Rust-Oleum makes this paint in several metallic colors.  I selected the Pewter color.

One coat covered the letters perfectly.  I have plenty of the paint left, so look for more projects to come in a few weeks.

I moved the letters around the house just to see where I liked them.

The real test is to see if your visitors think they are metal.  Without asking or saying anything a few days ago my mother saw the letters up on top of my kitchen cabinets.  She said “Where did you get those metal letters?”  WooHoo!!!!  Sometime later my sister stops by and she said “Aren’t you afraid those metal letters will fall off your cabinets and damage the counter top or hurt someone?”  Awesome……they passed the look test.

Total cost of this project $16 for the letters…..I used $3.00 worth of the spray paint.

My Metal Letters  $19.00 for 3.

Pottery Barn – $60 for 3.
