This thought crosses a lot of homeowners minds all of the time.
One thing after another seems to go wrong, and before you know it you literally feel like your house is falling apart.

The freedom of having your own place is amazing, but the issues that go wrong can be a nightmare.
Let me turn that nightmare into a dream for you, and show you the ways you can fix your house that’s falling apart.
Minor Issues
There are some issues around the home that you can fix yourself, rather than paying large amounts to have someone do it for you.
For example, if you have a door that just won’t shut properly or won’t stop squeaking, all you need to do is replace the hinge.
Grab a screwdriver, some screws that will fit, and get your DIY on.
Unscrew the door from the hinges, and put the new ones in their place.
Screw them in tightly, and make sure the door is attached properly.
That annoying squeak you’ve been dealing with for months should now stop!
Another nightmare the plagues a lot of homes is the dreaded leaky tap.
You don’t need to call a plumber in for this.
All you need is a small wrench, and the ability to turn the water off.
Switch the main water supply to your house to off position.
Unscrew the headgear of the tap, and search for the body washer, this should be what is causing your tap to leak.
All you need to do is have one ready from your local DIY store, and replace it.
No more leaky faucet and best of all save money on your water bill.
Another important task is to change your furnace filters
Replace according to your furnace brands manufacturers suggestion.
My furnace manufacturer manual suggests at the beginning of each winter or cold season replace the old filter with a new one.
Keep your home in good repair by always keeping the painted porch railings, door jams and all painted wood in good condition by repainting at the first sides of peeling paint or weathered look.
This will protect from weather and also keep your home looking its best.
Major Issues
Some issues are just best left to a professional if you want to do them right.
Major plumbing issues are one.
Sometimes you’ll suffer from blocked drains.
A lot of houses go through this due to bad weather, or bad drainage systems.
Use a blocked drain service to get the drain cleared, and replace any piping if you need to.
The there’s the age-old issue of a leak within the house.
It always seems to happen when you’re not in all day as well, so you come home to a home that is nicely flooded with water.
This is the time to call in a plumber.
Switch off the water supply and try and get an emergency plumber in.
In the meantime, use a dehumidifier to try and clear up any of the moisture.
Another issue that requires you call a professional is with electrical problems happen.
Do you have a problem with an electrical socket that keeps popping a circuit breaker? Is there a light switch that blinks off and on?
Not only is it very dangerous to try to fix any wiring problem it can also void your home warranty if you have an unlicensed electrical person do work in regard to electrical wiring.

Hi, great post. It’s fascinating how many things we can do to improve our home and add value to it. My to go tip is to add a ceiling fan in the living room. In summer, ceiling fans create cooling breezes, which reduce the strain on air conditioners. In winter, they circulate heated air to keep the room warm. And it’s pretty and vintage :)
This is so true. We can save so much money just by fixing some things by ourselves. And that tip on how to fix doors is just great.
I’m working as an electrician and this also gives me some advantage but there are some things you can fix even though you don’t know much about electricity. Of course, the main thing you should worry about is your safety but some small things like checking if your devices work right is okay. And if there are some problems you can call for service (and only then). It also will help to save some time and money.
It’s incredible how we can do things, and through that we save so much money! Sometimes all we should do is discover what are the things we can and we cannot do :)
