Growing cucumbers vertically has completely changed the way I garden.

How I Secured My Cucumber Trellis

I used metal pipe clamps (also called cable clamps) to attach each leg of the black metal arch directly to my cedar raised bed. This created a solid connection that keeps the trellis from shifting in strong winds.
As cucumber vines mature, they become surprisingly heavy, especially after a summer rain. Add a thunderstorm with gusty winds, and an unsecured arch can easily lean or tip over.

My Cucumbers Are Already Climbing
Only a few weeks after planting, the cucumber vines began finding the twine on their own.
Now they’re climbing higher every day.
The tendrils wrap themselves around the twine without any help from me, and the vines have become thick, healthy, and full of blossoms.
At the pace they’re growing, I expect this entire arch to be covered by the end of July, if not sooner.
